KYB stands for Know Your Bible. The Bible study resources produced by CWCI International are collectively called KYB studies. Most KYB studies are based on a book of the Bible. There are also 'thematic' studies, in which a biblical theme is studied throughout the Old or New Testaments, or both. Groups which use these studies are called KYB groups. KYB groups now exist in many countries around the world.
The aims of KYB studies
1. To be theologically sound, upholding the truths found in our Statement of Beliefs.
2. To help people understand the Bible passage in its original context.
3. To help people apply the Bible passage to their own lives.
4. To provide space for reflection and prayer.
To fulfil these aims, each study contains a variety of comprehension, interpretation and application questions, as well as prompts for reflection and prayer. Studies also contain introduction and review notes to guide people in their understanding of the passage. See Producing KYB Studies for more details on how KYB studies are produced.
The method KYB uses
KYB is designed so that group members engage with the Bible passage through four different methods each week:
1. Answering daily questions at home before the group meeting
2. Group discussion at a set time each week
3. Leader’s introduction and summary
4. Review notes provided with each study
Each group member is given their own study book. The study books are divided into units, with one unit covered each week. Each unit has set daily Bible readings with questions to answer at home before meeting as a group. Each group leader is provided with a Leader’s Guide that gives suggestions for answers, tips for guiding discussions, as well as introductory and summary notes. The recommended time for a complete group session is 1½ hours.
Some benefits of this method
1. A daily devotional pattern is established for each person, allowing for all to be nurtured by God’s word.
2. Group members can learn from each other, as they share their answers with one another.
3. Group members become equipped to share what they are learning from God’s word and how it is impacting their life.
4. KYB group leaders become equipped in leading a small group Bible study and in sharing God’s word with others.
